Some Poets for Women’s Day

There is much discussion on Women’s Day today.

I thought it suitable to mention a few women poets!

Yard03

In my own country women have been writing poetry for many a year.  Not far from where I currently live we had Mary Gilmore.  Some would know Dorothea MacKellar, especially for her poem ‘My Country‘, that paints word pictures of the landscapes.

At school, I enjoyed studying Emily Dickinson.

In more recent times, I have enjoyed Sylvia Plath, whom I posted on previously,

and Mary Oliver.

Who are your favourite women poets?

Welcome to the beginning of the
We Are The World Blogfest #WATWB .  It is a place where we share good will between others.  A platform built on hope and peace that is intended to share some good news on the social media feeds that we receive.

“We Are the World Blogfest” seeks to promote positive news. There are many cases of love and light out there, stories that show compassion and the resilience of the human spirit. Sharing these stories increases our awareness of hope in our increasingly dark world.

We will link to charities supported by the co-hosts, and you could choose to donate to some of them or add links to local charities you support, so we could all chip in to a good cause if we like.

Let us flood social media with peace and love, and “In Darkness, Be Light.” The first post for We Are The World Blogfest is on the 31st March 2017.

~~~GUIDELINES~~~
  1.  Keep your post to below 500 words, as much as possible.
  2. All we ask is you link to a human news story on your blog on the last Friday of each month, one that shows love, humanity, and brotherhood. Something like this news, about a man who only fosters terminally ill children.
  3. Join us on the last Friday of each month in sharing news that warms the cockles of our heart. No story is too big or small, as long as it goes beyond religion and politics, into the core of humanity.
  4. Place the WE ARE THE WORLD Badge on your sidebar, and help us spread the word on social media. Tweets, Facebook shares, G+ shares using the #WATWB hashtag through the month most welcome. More Blogfest signups mean more friends, love and light for all of us.
  5. We’ll read and comment on each others’ posts, get to know each other better, and hopefully, make or renew some friendships with everyone who signs on as participants in the coming months.
  6. To signup, add your link in WE ARE THE WORLD Linky List below.
Subway Subversion
Today I read another great post on The Bookshelf of Emily J about a book written on a railway metaphor. My Dad was a Station Master, and, as it is his anniversary of death today, it is quite poignant that this post should appear in response to Emily’s post.
Subway Subversion
All aboard!
Off it goes,
The train to where?
Who knows?
Following a subway
Beneath what purports,
To be real,
What other meaning
Does this passage reveal?
A carriage of justice?
A cargo of hope?
To give desperate families,
While they struggle to cope.
To keep on the rails,
Amidst wagons of woes,
To follow the trajectory,
While not knowing
Where it goes.
Classes and people,
Cultures and races,
Stratified occupations,
Many coloured faces.
All seeking a transit,
To a station that is true,
That honours me as me,
And lets you
Be you.
May people oppressed
Find a passage that is free,
No matter their difference
Grant them liberty.
We Long For.. Hope..
It has been a little while since a post. So, something has broken in.  There is more.  “Winter is coming”, to the Southern Hemisphere, as we have just begun Autumn (Fall). But there is something else coming.  Something hopeful.  But wait. It will be gently ushered in as quietly as a soft breeze.
We Long For… Hope…
We long for
hope,
For peace,
and for
release
from all
that tires,
hurts,
troubles, or
perplexes
us.
We long for
love,
A warm embrace,
A genuine face
to greet
us,
As we meet
the days
of our existence.
We long
to not just strive,
Instead,
To thrive,
And face life’s adventure
Together, and
Fully alive.
