Try Reading When Dulled
Try reading when dulled
When, on that edge of tiredness,
The words are a blur
And whirr
Round and round on the retina.
They are there
The words
And stare and stare as you might
First sight doesn’t connect
With the dismal, dim, dull depths
Of grey matter
What did I just read?
Oh, reading, but I was
Watching daydreams drift by
Was I?
Reading
Daydreaming
Drifting in a daze
The words a haze
Synapse delays
Close the eyes.
