Remembered Scent
Car ignition
The motor and
a smell
long, long
forgotten
returned.
A long forgotten
scent
of him,
one loved deeply.
The same smell.
And we
remember.
The nose knows
and remembers.

Scent Of A Train
For Noel Charles “Charlie” Falk, a Station Master
A feeling of
Something ferrous and hot
Wafts into my nostrils.
Is my car alight?
It gave me a fright!
But
The there was no warning
Light or tones.
Then I knew.
Yes, that familiar aroma,
I recalled the sound
Of metal on metal
And its smell,
A scent of a train.
I felt at home
Again,
As memories traveled
To accompany me.
All those homes
We inhabited.
By the rails,
And Dad,
In uniform,
On standby,
Flag and whistle
At the ready,
Ensuring another train
was steady
To recommence
It’s passage.

Eluded Pleasant Scent
Technology may
Capture,
In Pod and pixel,
The stunning sight,
Of brilliant day
And social night.
Sound,
It may record,
That we may pin it
To a board,
Or playlists
In our caches.
But,
The bulging bytes,
Cannot control,
A pleasant scent upon
A stroll,
A flowering tree
That comes to me
Oh, that pleasing scent
Held naturally!

Rain Fell On An Autumn Eve
Rain fell
On an autumn eve,
In a sunny shower,
Of sound
And light,
That might
Wet the ground
A little,
And refresh
The gardens
For a time.
Gentle, it was,
As is
The remaining
Scent,
Sneaking up
Into the nostrils,
To tantalise us
With the new
bounty
From above.
